About Mopeta Wines

Mopeta Wines is a family owned and operated vineyard based on the western slopes of the southern end of the Flinders Ranges near Spencer Gulf in South Australia. It is situated at Baroota about 250 kms north of Adelaide.

The Dennis Family have farmed at Mopeta (derived from an Aboriginal word meaning running water) since the 1920s. The first plantings of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot occurred in September 1997. This was followed with further plantings of Shiraz in 1998 and 2001. The total vineyard is now 20.5 hectares.

To ensure the best grape flavour and quality, we aim to produce low yielding crops, using hand pruning and minimum drip irrigation from spring water obtained from Baroota Creek (near Baroota Reservoir as seen above). The majority of our grapes are sold under contract to Fosters at Nurioopta in the Barossa Valley.
